Ex-Employer hurt my credit.....What can I do?  Reply with quote

I worked for a 70,000+ employee corporation and left them last year, on good terms, due to not being able to travel anymore.

I had a company credit card in which was used for travel expenses. When I left, I had around $300 in final expenses which could not be entered into their system due to the fact that the charges would not clear until after I was gone. My supervisor told me that it would be taken care of.

Several months later, I noticed a collections account on my credit report that was linked back to AMEX. Come to find out, my final expenses were not taken care of, and AMEX saw me as the responsible party and reported it on my credit, so my former employer totally dropped the ball.

I contacted them and after a few months, I think they finally paid the debt. Of course this did not mean it would be erased from my credit. I contacted AMEX to see how I could get this off of me. They said I would have to get them to submit a statement saying I was not liable, in which I have done.

Once again, months go by and nothing is done. What can I do? Is this unlawful or anything? My wife and I were trying to buy our first home until this came up and my score dropped dramatically and now I cannot get approved for a loan and I don't know what to do.

Any help would be appreciated!

I believe I posted a thread about this months ago and got lambasted because I told others that when you sign up for a company card like Amex Business card you are totally responsible for the card and it will affect your credit if your company doesn't pay. This is a good example of what happens when you work for a company that uses these practices. Your going to have to pay for it if they don't, sueing them would be to expensive.

Ok, so I found out that my ex-employer DID if fact pay the balance off a while back. Now I'm in the process of having them contact AMEX to explain that they were liable for it instead of me.

Thanks for the insight folks.
