FOCUS ON RECESSION PROOF BUSINESSES In A SEVERE ECONOMY
Good topic.
Having been online since before internet went commercial, I have see it all, and when I experienced my first recession while in a traditional business, I learned how to survive, even thrive through it, but many I know did not survive, so lesson learned. You have to adjust to the economic pressures and in my case, I deversified, added new services which involved saving people money, not costing them money.
Fortunately, this lesson has been part of my strategy for online businesses ever since. Now I focus on value, giving people what they need but cannot afford any longer. With unemployment rising and things not looking any better for the next few years, I research only money saving valuable services where I can make a difference in peoples lives, peace of mind sells in all economic conditions, but saving a person home if unemployed is one of the most gratifying of all services I offer. Also providing free life benefits and discount healthcare, medical, RX Prescription Plans and a free will is also a great incentive to use to build your business referrals. Everyone responds to free offers, incentives and rewards, and I have used this to build all my businesses over the years.
I am doing medical transcription from home. Its a pretty regular job and I earn a decent amount. The best thing about medical transcription is that there are many companies which also offer opportunities to work from office in case you get bored of work from home arrangement.

I guess for my extra income, I cannot get it here in the internet. What I do is buy stuff and sell them again after I refurbish them. I post them online so I can sell them.

My family's entire income is from our home-based business. Whether the order comes via the internet, telephone, fax, or from my outside sales calls. My last job was part-time working at Christmas, so many years ago I can't recall exactly - But, it was at Montgomery Wards, so you know it's been over a decade.
My business is selling to business, industry, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. And, it doesn't matter whether the buyer is across town or half-way across the U.S. I can sell anywhere in the US, whether online or off. I presently serve clients from SW Louisiana to Houston, TX face-to-face, and online customers from several states. (Some dealers generate all the sales via the internet, but I had 15 years in building my business before I ever got online.)
Some home-based opportunities are strictly Work-at-Home, but mine is Work-From-Home. I do spend some days at my desk and computer without leaving home, but enjoy seeing many of my clients in person.
Unlike retail or MLM sales where the distributor is hoping to sell one big item (water filter, air purifiers, full set of cookware), or many smaller items - nutrition products, cosmetics, candles, my sales consist of larger volume of custom printed promotional advertising, such as ink pens, coffee mugs, USB memory sticks, golf balls and accessories, embroidered shirts, caps, and jackets, calendars, magnets, decals, executive gifts, corporate jewelry, t-shirts, Post-It Notes, and over 750K other products.
And, many of my clients have become customers for life. Twenty-seven years ago, I sold a radiator repair shop a small order of pocket screwdrivers. Last month they re-ordered ink pens for the umpteenth time. They've also ordered caps, t-shirts, calendars, coffee mugs, key chains, memo cube pads, pencils, and other specialty items over the years. They've also given me a number of referrals to other clients, meaning more business I didn't have to go find for myself.
So, my home business isn't about bringing in extra income, it's our total income, and has allowed my wife to be a Stay-at-Home Mom and Nana for the past 27 years.

Christmas is so near already. I think it would not be wise to just sit back and wait for opportunities in the internet. I started with buying and selling stuff for the coming holidays. The money I will get from the internet will just be a bonus.
