Independent but financially naive young woman here to learn  Reply with quote

Hi all, just got a promising professional job in NYC as a webmaster, and Im here to learn and ask for guidance, as I try to make a secure life for myself. I'm 31, and come from a lower middle class family, who are great, but who are even more financially ignorant than I am. I also live by myself, and though I know it will be challenging, I would like to give myself more security than my family knew growing up. A lot of that involves educating myself about finance, and I think this will be a great place to learn from others. I look forward to our future conversations! Smile

Thank you very much Coaster! I've unfortunately witnessed a few otherwise smart family members suffer the consequences of making really bad financial decisions, and it was enough to "scare me straight" so to speak, that if there came a time when I was fortunate enough to make a decent living, (which as of a few years ago it has) to make as much precautions for security as possible. I think forums like this are a great way to learn as much as I can as quick as I can.

Agree with Coaster. You have a great attitude.

Being willing and open to learning puts you off to a great start already. No matter how educated you are, there is something new you can learn every day.

And there is a lot of great info on this forum.

Two pieces of advice I can offer:

-live within a budget

-try to generate multiple sources of income

See Proof. You can make free money online.
