What makes you open a store CC?  Reply with quote

If you are shopping in a store and they ask you if you would like to open a CC what makes you say yes? What are the reasons that you would like to open this credit card....would the fact that I can save you 40% on an initial purchase help?

I always say No. Don't need it, I'm doing fine without it. In fact I get a lot of deals because I pay cash. Example, I just got another 40% off an 80% deal because the furniture store was going out of business and I was using cash.

I have one store card, and that's for Kohl's. I do the majority of my clothing shopping there. I love the card because I get coupons for 15%, 20%, or 30% twice a month. I would already be shopping there, so using the coupons have really helped me save money on my purchases. Plus, I totally manipulate the system. I use my coupon and my store card when I check out. And then IMMEDIATELY after that transaction I saw, "Oh, and I would like to make a payment to my Kohl's card" and hand over cash to the store clerk and pay the card balance off.

BAZZINGA!

I'm contemplating getting a Target card for the 5% all purchases. I think store cards have their advantages if you frequently shop there.

As long as the card gives you bonuses, and you're going to shop there anyway, and pay the card off each billing cycle, why not? But if you are not disciplined enough to use the card wisely and know it - definitely not. There are basically no stores that offer credit cards where I live, but if they did I probably wouldn't use them. I already get enough bills in the mail each month.

The offer of 10% + OFF my purchase is usually tempting, but I typically say no. Greater discount might have more impact on my decision.

Most of the general public probably see it as an emergency card. The 'just in case' attitude is within us. So why not? I am not going to use it anyhow, just for emergencies. My thought.

Store credit card is not so bad. At least it makes you feel assured that once you are out of cash, you have an alternative help.

Most people get that or avail that for convenience and for assurance that you can spend it on the mall/store of your choice. Mostly with discounted value. So Why not? Smile
