Good sources for small loans??

Does anyone know of a good source for a small loan (1-5k) other than a bank? I expect to pay a bit more interest since my credit isn't stellar anymore Sad

In theory a credit union that gets tax breaks should be more friendly then a bank bank. But in reality this may not be the case as I learned when I acidently used the wrong account to pay a credit card. The for profit credit card company waived all the related fees for my mistake but the friendly credit union "split" the fee with me.

I have used short term loans from my credit card company before.

Found out about it from calling them about something else, and they mentioned their promotion. It was a really good rate and using it bumped up my credit limit by the amount of the loan. Worked out pretty well.
