Investing in stock market  Reply with quote

It's for a project I have to do. What exactly can you learn from investing in the stock market?I wrote how unpredictable it is and how hard it is to choose what stock to buy. You can never know for sure how the stock will do over an extended period of time.

You learn patience. Becoming wealthy is a slow (and often boring) process that requires patience and discipline, it is not a 'get rich quick' scheme.

Hi Nancy..interesting question there...in my opinion, u can learn so much from investing in the stock market. Nothing beats learning it hands on!

First thing u learn will be how to read annual reports. That's really a knowledge by itself. Once u can understand how to read the annual reports, u will get a feel of what stocks are undervalued and which ones are over-valued as compared to their intrinsic value. This will increase ur chances of making the correct bet.

Also u will learn how to think independently. People always follow the herd instinct but u could learn to think contrarian by investing in the stock market. For example, do u dump all ur stocks during a financial crisis (like the one just passed) when there is so much doom and gloom??? or do u start buying stocks since they are so cheap relative to their intrinsic value?
By buying stocks during financial crisis and selling them during the boom times (the herd mentality will make u buy stocks during the good times)..u can be quite sure that u will make money. This makes it more predictable. If u are not sure what individual stocks to buy..buy an index fund of the whole economy.

That's just my view. Cheers!

You learn how news and politics effect business. You learn about companys. "The only guarantee in the stock market is change" It goes up, down side ways but what effects it most is news and politics.
