Government Rebate Checks  Reply with quote

What's your opinion on government rebate checks? Do you think by dispersing checks to many many Americans that it will stimulate the economy?

I'll accept it though. I hear they are going to reimburse us with $300.

I will accept it too. But the country has too much of a defecit to fund the rebate checks. I don't think all Americans will use their check to buy products. They will just pay bills, etc. But we will see.

Rebate checks were dispersed a few years ago and I don't think there was a miraculous turnaround in the economy.

I didn't get a rebate check the last time they sent them out and I agree with qualitytw, the US doesn't have enough money to be doing this and I think most people who get the money this time will be using it to dig themselves out of the hole that a lot of us are in. Add that to the fact that the checks aren't even supposed to go out for 6 more months and I don't see how this is going to rebound our economy?

I think that those rebates call every one that will receive it a complete idiot.

Of course all will accept them but the idea behind those rebates and the hoped for results as well as the reasoning behind them are beyond idiotic and are nothing more than an insult to intelligence and any sort of economic and fiscal wisdom.

The rebates are beyond ridiculous but look at who manages fiscal policy...and it will only get worse before it will get...even worse again.

It is not smart to play it safe but it is safe to play it smart.

Funny,

It is like putting a bandaid on a severed neck, won't help save this economy going into full recession.

Good luck to all, Mike

Of course I will use it!
But I am I going to go out and help the economy jump start? I guess if you call eating at a restaraunt on a Friday or Saturday, sure. But other than that nothing special.
Most people will waste on more bills that they accumulated from credit card spending. Oh well.

I doubt that anyone will complain about the rebate checks (at least not right now)...but it will not do anything for the economy besides the addition of about $160 Billion in debt.

The reality is that it the rebate checks will do more harm than good.

It is not smart to play it safe but it is safe to play it smart.

Perhaps we can't just blame greedy bankers for the mess. Some other "idiots" are/were involved. Not sure I would go so far as to cal us complete idiots. I'm more of an incomplet idiot;)

I enjoyed it when Colorado did it.

Direct diposit just isn't the same as getting a check check.

If I thought that people were going to go out and spend their rebate checks, then I think it could help. Unfortunately, I think it would probably go into paying off debt, which would probably not do much to stimulate the economy.

I think they are trying to stimulate the economy, they aren't going to turn around and ask for it back. Another thing that leads me to believe we are keeping it is because the rebate has been approved for people who make little money and pay no taxes.

Thanks
