She said she couldn't sell our rental unit, becasue it would be a conflect of intrest.

Okay, so we found a different Real Estate person to make the sale.

Well, now she has sold a house to our renters.

How can she repersent them and it not be a conflect of intrest when them leaving prior to us selling the home is not in our best intrest?

I was always willing to try and sell it as a investment property with a renter in place so at no time was I planning on leaving the renters high and dry.

Seems kind of smarmy to me that she never told us she was going to sell a house to our renters.

Had she been upfront about this I would probaby have been okay with it.

I don't get it either because in my experience, real estate agents aren't at all concerned about a conflict of interest. The standard contract has a clause that gives the agent the right to represent both the buyer and the seller on a property. I got a mighty funny look when I questioned this....as if she'd never heard of "a conflict of interest" before. Naturally, they want to shove their own listings at you first, so they can pocket the full commission if they make a sale.

Not to paint all RE folks with the same brush, but I had a similar reaction from a realtor once... I called him up to show me a building, and then when I brought my own "buyer-side" realtor into the negotiation, he got all hacked off and wouldn't even work with us.

Eventually the owner finally switched agencies and re-listed it I sent my guy in again with the same offer, and voila! - we had a deal. Amazing...
