Don't over pay for a car!!!!  Reply with quote

Amazing how many people don't even try to get the price down!!!!

And those who do get the price down often forget to get what their car is worth on trade.

So you got that car for "invoice" but you got chinced on your traid in and the dealership laughed all the way to the bank.

If your paying MSRP your paying to much.

At least get them down some!!!!

Auto dealers are experts at sizing people up -- how much they can get out of them. You might think you're quite the wheeler and dealer and you haggle the price down, but they've already got that built in. I haven't seen any auto dealers going broke where I live.

ehehhehe...coaster has that right!

They have politicians beat insofar as the ability to screw somebody yet leaving the screwed feel good about it!

Best way to avoid being "sized up": make the deal entirely over telephone/fax before going to the dealer.

You really must be kidding, right?

After spending 35 years owning a computer business that sold systems to car dealers I think I have some insight into the business.

The only way to get the best deal with any dealer is belly to belly so you can grind it out on common ground. As long as you go armed with as much information as you can get, you have as good a chance as anyone does.

The more you understand about how they operate, the better you can do. Just keep in mind they do this every day, hour after hour and they are experts. You do it once every few years, so there is no way you can beat them at their own game, they just make you think you did.

If you have no idea where to start, pick up one of the many 'Car Buyer' manuals written by those inside the business and get educated. Spending a $20 bill on a manual could save you Thousands on your next deal.

Here's a website I did for one of them.

No I am not. Going to a dealer is playing on their turf; the telephone is your home-court advantage. The 'insider education' you mentioned also teaches that. Confused

www.fightingchance.com is an excellent resource.

Well I slept with someone who sold those systems to dealers, does that count? Very Happy

Okay, how about this, then, every new vehicle I have purchased I obtained $6K-$7K under sticker, generally $2,500 under invoice, or approximately $500 over the dead cost. Two of these vehicles are limited production special editions as well.
