How to get a website started?? |
|
|
Hey guys I am a new user here but I have been reading the site for about a week now and I must say I value your guys' opinions. So with that said I am thinking of starting a website with ADSENSE or yahoo beta in mind. I am looking for some info on where to start mostly i am wondering what program everyone started their site with and web hosting fees and such. Is there any free programs I can make a good legit site with? Thanks to anyone who responds.

The idea I was given some time ago was to create a blog at http://www.blogger.com about something you're really in. You can start your blog with no fees at all and put adsense code to make money for you. Hope this will work for you, cause it has worked for me quite well.
Cheers

First thing u need is a good topic, something u like, that also interests a lot of people: i would recommend sports, or video games, since its pretty easy to run and keep updated.
After that all u need to do is to get some traffic, u can use autosurfer programs, traffic exchange, or places to free advertise, etc.
Keep the page updated, for ur daily users. If u can, try to get some flash animations or cool looking pics (the nicer the page, the better people like it).
I hope this helps

Thanks for the posts guys. I was wondering though if someone could give me the name of a good reputable design program for my website. Whether it be a free one or paid either way. Thanks.

If you really want people to remember your site and come to it more often, you have to pay for a domain name. This will only run you about 8 bucks a year though so it is very well worth it. Don't do anything like www.angelfire.com/yourdomain, people just won't remember it and you won't get near the traffic you would with your own domain name.
Dreamweaver and Front Page are good design program but they are costly. I prefer just using notepad and writing code. I made the investing site in my sig with Front Page and don't really like the design. I made my Strange-Facts site, http://www.strange-facts.com, with notepad and like that design better. Notepad takes some getting used to though as you need to learn a lot more code.

Well freewebs is free, but they add theirs adsense code so you'll lose one of the best ways to profit from your website.

A few warnings |
|
|
Hi,
just wanted to warn you about those "pre-made" Adsense web sites. They're total crap. The idea is fine, but everyone and their dog have the exact same web sites. That's NOT a way to make good revenue.
Second - DON'T buy "high paying keywords" - very misleading and also the everybody and dog story again.
Third... Do the research first. Think of a topic you love and research what keywords people will use to find you. You can do that with some free tools. Search the web a bit. (suggestion - Overture, Goodkeywords.com etc.)
Fourth... a Blog is a great idea. Post optimized posts and put Adsense on such spots that get clicked on the most. (rectangles embedded in text and top left or right placement for skyscrapers) - never put more than 3 units per web site. You will get banned.
There's a lot more, but I think these are the first things you should do. I'd give you links to my Adsense blogs, but I'm afraid everyone would just copy them and do the exact same thing. And that's not a good thing
You'll do great.
Oh, one more thing - try to incorporate your Adsense in such a way that it will blend in with the rest of the web site -- you'll get more clicks.
About Yahoo! - I believe their requirement is 100000 visitors a day, so if this is your first web site, go for Adsense. Before you apply, make sure your blog has at least 3 quality, unique posts and contact information.
Have a great day.

These guys are right on the money. I do suggest Google Adsense over Yahoo's service. Google on average pays more per click.
