Good first credit card?  Reply with quote

I'm 20 and I would like to get my first credit card...mainly to get a good credit history. Right now I have no credit history, good or bad. What card would you guys suggest I get? I plan on paying it off every month. I am not a student so I do not qaulify for any of those cards.

A few months ago I tried to sign up for a 5% gas reward card, but was denied due to "no credit history". Are there any rewards cards that I might qualify for?

Eufora Credit Builder has guaranteed approval, builds credit history and you will never be in debt for one second with it.

Credit card ideas  Reply with quote

I'm almost 21 and my first credit card when I was 18 was capital one. As long as you have a job and an income you will get a 500 dollar credit limit. My APR was of course high... 0% for 6 months and then 18% there after. You might also want to try a credit card through your bank. I also have mine mostly to establish credit, since I apply for student loans in my name/ credit because my parents are way over their head in debt. sigh.

Do you think I would be able to get this one?

Is it possible to pay off a credit card with a debit card?

Honestly, no. The credit limit is high and the interest rate isn't too bad... plus rewards! Granted I know nothing about your financial situation so you never know, that's not meant to be offensive. I think things like those are priveleges we have to slowly earn. Look for something with the highest credit liming being around 2,000 or less. You can always get one that way... just establish credit and then in a year call them and ask them for a lower APR or higher credit limit. Probably be more inclined to give you the latter. Either way, slowly working up is going to be the only option I know of.

Oh one more thing, I assume if you have a debit card then you have a bank account. Capital one (also many many others) offer free bill pay online and account login etc. You set up your bank account, Capital One posts payment to my account that day if I do it before 3 PM. Since I have a low credit limit - 600.00. I can buy something on it (stuff online usually for me)... go make payment and then use it normally again.

I know I can pay the credit card with my bank account, but will they accept a debit card? I have a debit card with my PayPal account that gives me 1.5% cash back. If I could pay with that all cards are rewards cards. Smile

Starting A Credit History  Reply with quote

It's good to see that you're taking an interest in building your credit history at an early age. Since you're not a college student, it will be harder for you to obtain credit for the first time. By everyone having different personal backgrounds, I would suggest that you use a credit search. This way would bring back results of all the credit cards that would be right for you given your personal background information. With those results, you can compare the interest rates, apr's, etc. and pick the one you think fits you. Because there are thousands of cards that you would be weeding through if you looked at them one by one. Remember that time is critical when dealing with credit. U can find a free credit search at UrCreditSolution. Good Luck!

Department stores. Get one or two of those and soon after you will get offers/approval for a major credit card. Don't expect elite rewards cards right away; you have to 'build up' to it.

Never accumulate credit card debt. Ever.

He said he's not a student. Providian is a good try though...

Store credit cards are horrible IF you carry a balance. Never, ever do that.

Target cards are kinda cool.

So how long do I need to have a crappy card before they'll let me have a good one?

The interest rate isn't really important to me since I plan on paying it off every month, right?

I already get credit card offers almost daily. Today I got one from Capital One that said in big letters on the outside "You are CONFIRMED for this credit card offer". Confirmed pending approval. Rolling Eyes Not a week ago I got a letter from capital one saying they wouldn't give me a card due to no credit history.

Dirty bastards. Rolling Eyes
