ATM Jackpot: What would you do?  Reply with quote

A cash machine in the village of Wooler in England recently malfunctioned and gave withdrawers twice the amount they were supposed to receive. Well, word spread pretty quick and soon there was a line all the way down the block with people waiting to get their "double" withdrawal. One lady even showed up in nightgown and curlers having riden a taxi to the scene. The bank decided to not try to track down the extra money, so everybody got to keep the extra if they got any. So, if this happened to you, would you quietly keep it, or turn the extra over to the bank?

Not every day that you get free money. If bank was not asking for the money back I would just keep it until they did.

Its just as if you had a charge that wasn't yours on your Visa. It would stay on their until you notified the credit card company of the error then they would remove it.

I doubt I'll ever run into the ATM jackpot situation. The thing I wonder about is what would happen if the ATM gave you less cash than it thought it did. How would you prove that you got short-changed, with no human there to tell?
