I know an airline pilot that makes about $200,000 per year. When he flies cargo he goes to China, India, Australia - and several other fun places. He max's a 401k, will probably have a couple million in it - but he also invests in the market outside of the 401k, probably will have a couple more million in stocks. You say "so that a wise ass could enjoy life better then me and enjoy this planet as if I was the stupid one"" - but from what I see, he is the smart one.

Sadly, you are correct. I went to HS in the 1950s, the curriculum was academically serious, we got a good education - my children got a much weaker HS education, and it is even worse for my grandkids.
We have a Generation that has been brainwashed to avoid corporations, never Work For the Man. Instead they try to start a small business. And 85% of them fail. Conversely, in my generation (WW2) there are lots of retired multi-millionaires. For some reason, the younger doesn't get it, they expect to be Hollywood stars and/or Pro Ball Players - or wealthy business owners. Sorry, the numbers say that it ain't gonna happen. Meanwhile, it is actually fairly simple to become a millionaire in today's world, it surprises me that more people don't do it.
