Level 5 risk funds advice  Reply with quote

Hey folks. I have several items in my portfolio now, even thought the dollar value isnt huge. I would like to start putting about 10% of my investment cash into high risk funds. the majority of my holdings are index funds, with a small percentage of bond funds. According to the standard risk meter, my most risky fund is the vanguard 500.

So I'm looking for suggesting on Level 5 risk funds. Something more high growth. Id still prefer some sort of mutual fund or index. I''m looking for companies that do Biomedical, cyrpto currecny investing, space companies... etc. Things that when they go up, go up big.

Any suggestions?

I would go 100% with the SP500 Index in both your brokerage account and 401k-type accounts. You are right to use index funds - that way you won't be paying cap gains tax each year on gains/losses due to the fund manager buying/selling within the fund - it's better to let the fund compound undisturbed.

And they go down big too. The SP500 Index carries the risk of the US Market. If you buy a sector (ETF), you superimpose the sector risk on top of the SP500 risk. And if you buy an individual company, you superimpose that corporate risk on top of the other two. The individual stocks and the sector stocks are all a part of that SP500 population - ie, given enough time, they converge into the 11%/yr SP500 return.

Right now Defense/space stocks are rising quickly (Trump is building a strong defense). But this isn't a 30 yr play, someone else 8 years from now could reverse the ideology. Same with Bio, some day (I hope) someone will crack a genome code and we will take a one-time custom pill or IV that will alter our genetics and 'fix' us. No hospitals, no operations, maybe no prescription drugs, no medicare/insurance needed, just go to a clinic, get a one-time fix, and drive on. That will obviously change everything that we know about our healthcare. OK, yeah - it might be 100 years away.

As for bitcoin - I'm truly clueless. I'm glad that I'm already wealthy and won't need to analyze that risk.
