In an attempt to diversify my portfolio I am considering a foray into property. I am looking at the following.
Student lettings such as ESP or UTG
FPO
Shaftesbury. A short term play on takeover hopes
Any comments or suggestions for alternatives would be welcome.
please help.
Thanks.

Studies have been done on lottery winners (and inheritances, legal awards, etc). On average, a winner blows thru the money in 7 years - they are conditioned to weekly pay, and are unable to manage lump sums - what intuitively appears to be "good" ideas are, in fact, the exact opposite.
You might try the 'Little Book of Common Sense Investing' by John Bogel, it's a small book, $15, concise, informative, and straight forward. It could keep you from runnng ofvf into the weeds as you search for investments.
