Responsive design  Reply with quote

Is a responsive design a must for better search engine ranking? How hard would it be to create one?

I think responsive design is not so necessary for search engine rank. But it help visitors to access the site easier (if it is well built).

for me it is important, because a website with a responsive web design is a site that is able to adapt to the screen it is being used on, regardless of what device it is. The website automatically reformats to give the user a better experience that is well suited to their device, and can give your site a number of benefits as well as being in line with Google recommendations.

I guess, so. I always using only responsive templates for MotoCMS website builder from http://www.templatemonster.com/moto-cms-3-templates.php when I create my websites. It is very important that your users will get the best experience using your website

Thanks for the input guys. I want to change my website's layout but creating one with a responsive design looks complicated. I'll just hire this SEO firm like my friend suggested.

Sorry Hello20 but you comment "I think responsive design is not so necessary" couldn’t be further from the truth. Google have now said that any non-responsive sites will not be in their new mobile index. I.e. if you are not smartphone friendly you will NEVER be found on a smartphone search. You can read an article on it here

There is a lot of debate when and how responsive design will affect your rating, and no one can tell for sure.

But, on the other hand, don't just think about responsive design in terms of SEO, think about user experience. If someone goes to your website on a mobile device and it looks messy they won't return and you'll loose a potential customer

Yes, that's for the separate index like they say: "Google is going to create a separate mobile index within months, one that will be the main or “primary” index that the search engine uses to respond to queries. A separate desktop index will be maintained, one that will not be as up-to-date as the mobile index."

They've also said that it will affect the overall rating, both for desktops and for mobile. I'm sorry, but I can't find the Youtube clip where Matt Cutts says that in the future non responsive websites will be downgraded for desktop search regardless, because it will be considered as a poorly designed website

Honestly, from my point of view, it will be much better if you order some custom web development services for your website. I can recommend you the company from https://www.issart.com/en/ They can make anything you will ever need from some simple projects to complex eCommerce once. I guess you will find it useful for you
