What interval is that log displaying? Is it the people in last 30 minutes? the last hour? or is it currently... If it is currently WOW you have over 500 people on here!

If you look at the main forum index, you'll see in the online section that it says...
This data is based on users active over the past day
This means that time period is the last 24 hours. So not 500 right now, but today.
I find that this provides a more useful measurement as it smooths out the hourly rises and dips that occur thru the day to create a more stable, usable statistic.
Which is good, because we are starting to get so many visitors that my website stats analyzer is having problems processing the whole log each day, which means I'm losing stats. But I'd rather have the visitors than the stats.
