Historically, the SP500 Index has been the most reliable method. On average, it doubles about every 6 or 7 years. (The Rule or 72). It is the generic average of US Business. An SP500 Index Fund is unmanaged, no buying/selling by a manager - so it is low-cost to own (no management fees). The longterm average return is 11%/yr (double in 6.6 yrs).

You can check the history here, take a look at a few 30 year blocks of time -

BTW, it just occurred to - If you start doubling $10k at age 18 and never touch it, you're already a millionaire - ie, it doubles to $1,280,000 when you are age 67. But not many have that kind of patience, they like new cars and big houses, LOL.

Hey old guy, I would do that if I knew how to double my money each year. I am 22 right now. No idea how to double my money though. I have 30K+ just sitting in my bank. I don't know how to invest. :'(

Stock people scare me, because it is confusing. That is why I've been doing affiliate marketing. Zero success so far. Sad

Affiliate. Are you a Brit?
Investing in the stock market vs affiliate marketing carry vastly different risk levels.
Risk and return are directly proportional - that's the Law of investing. Many people think that one thing is "safer" than the others, but that usually means that the investor is unable to identify & quantify the risks. A key part of investing is risk analysis and risk management, you need risk.

To double your $30k in a year you need a 100% return - and a 100% risk. (Almost a certainty that you will lose).
To keep your $30k safe, you need zero risk, ie a 1% savings account. (But your money will lose purchasing power every yr due to inflation).

So, you need to pick a risk level that you like - the generic US stock market index averages 11%/yr, longterm. And shortterm it can be anything, up 50%, down 50%, that is "fluctuation". If you leave it for about 20 or 30 years the ups/downs statistically average and converge on about 11%/yr. That 11%/yr is a moderate level, your $30k doubles about every 6.5 years. In 30 yrs it will be $685,000. And if you have the patience to wait 30 years the probable outcome is near-certainty.
