Dow breaks 17,000

Interesting that nearly three months later it's closed today at 17,071. Not really much of a pullback from a high of 17,350!

IMO, it isn't wise to sit around and worry about a 350 point shift in the Dow. The Dow only represents the top 25 companies in the US, so to me, it doesn't mean a thing. Plus I don't worry about major shifts in the market, because we are in it for the long haul. The market goes up and the market goes down. Big deal! All I look at is that my index fund has average around 18% for the last 6 years and before that it has average after inflation around 8%. Win, win.

Exactly... my point was that the media hype of the market up or down on a daily basis adds the kind of noise many people can't seem to decipher. The long term is what matters and what has shown itself to be solid.

I absolutely agree. Planning for retirement should be a long term process. Keep investing on a regular basis in a well diversified portfolio.
