Surprise savings  Reply with quote

XM/Sirius Radio pissed me off recently, when for the second time this year they hijacked my favorite music channel - "40s of 4".

The last time, they replaced my big band and swing music with mixed Christmas music.

The latest occurred when they 'borrowed' channel 4 as a temporary home for Billy Joel, while setting up a permanent station for his musical style.

The Customer Service person (likely from Bangalor, India, didn't seem to understand my complaint, but I finally managed to cancel the service.

I was considering whether or not to renew in July when they return my original "4", but in the meantime, they mailed me an offer to re-subscribe with a 75% saving for the first six months. That's an additional $74 in my pocket just for dropping their service for 7 weeks.

I may have to consider dropping service once or twice a year in the future - At least until they catch on to my scheme.

I have a friend that still has satellite radio even though he really doesn't want it. Every time he calls to cancel they drop the rate so low that he agrees to keep it (it is a good service but he doesn't travel nearly as much as he used to).

Apparently cable is similar.

I find I listen to XM Sirius just as much locally as when I travel. I live in small Louisiana city, where the radio stations are primarily Country, Hip Hop/Rap/Urban Contemporary, orRock.

But, my protest cancellation paid off in the form of a major discount for the next six months. My preferred music channel will be restored next week' and I'll sign up for ir it then with my 74% discount.

I think it depends on the cable company. My cable company doesn't seem to be that generous.
