Collections Question  Reply with quote

I have been getting letters from a collection agency saying I owe them 127.30. At First I thought it was fraud, but later figured out it was from Washington Mutual right before they were taken over by Chase 4 years ago. It had been over 4 years since I got a letter from a collection agency, but now it has started again. Nothing has ever been posted on my credit report for this and I am wondering how this could affect my credit report if I take/do not take any action. I have significantly raised my credit standing over the past four years, and I am afraid this is going to hold back all the progress I have made if it is posted on my credit report Any suggestions?

According to the Fair Debt collection Act the collection company must send you a letter proving you owe the debt within 5 days. So I would contact them and ask them to send written proof.
